Variations:

On the European roulette or French roulette, the numbers on the wheel are split in 3 sections, orphans (orfanelli), tier (serie 5/8), voisin (grand serie or serie 0/2/3). By placing bets on these sections, the following numbers would be covered:

Orphans: 5 piece bet, numbers covered are 1 straight up, 6/9 split, 14/17 split, 17/20 split and 31/34 split Tier: 6 piece bet covering 5/8, 10/11, 13/16, 23/24, 27/30, 33/36 all splits Voisin: 9 piece bet covering 0/2/3 corner (2pieces), 4/7 split, 12/15 split, 18/21 split, 19/22 split, 25/29 split (2pieces), 32/35 split

On the other hand, American roulette is played with an extra number, the double 0 (00) but pays the same. The numbers are also not split in 3 sections like in the Euro/French roulette and are in a different order. Bets placed on the first corner in American roulette pays 6:1 and not 8:1 as in the Euro/French equivalent as due to the 00, you are covering 5 numbers and not 4.

House Edge: Euro/French roulette stands at 2.7% whilst that on the American counterpart stands at 5.3%
